Tim’s images were on display at the Konica-Minolta Building in Toyko during September and it was a great success. The theme was on Biodiversity and showcased Tim’s work from the rain forest treetops to Fiji’s reefs. Tim was featured in an article in The Yomiuri Shimbun which has the largest newspaper circulation in the world. Below is a copy of the article that was published on September 23rd.
Today’s article entitled “Precursor to H.I.V. Was in Monkeys for Millennia” used Tim’s image of a black colobus from Bioko. It illustrated one of the species of monkeys that researchers studied to determine the mutation rate of S.I.V. You can read the article in the Health section of the NYT.
The Konica-Minolta Plaza gallery in Tokyo will be showing Tim’s prints from September 8th to October 7th. It is entitled Biodiversity because the selection of the 100 cm prints is a collection of his best work. The work covers the depths of the ocean to the tree tops of Borneo and from the antarctic landscape to rain forests of Indonesia.
This year WildPhotos 2010 will be held in October at the Royal Geographical Society in London. Tim will be speaking along with some of the world’s best nature photographers. Tim will be speaking about his quest for the birds of paradise and the challenges of rainforest photography. The WildPhotos webpage features Tim’s blue bird of paradise (Paradisaea rudolphi) image.
In January of 2009, The YUS Conservation Area in Papua New Guinea became the first of its kind. More than 35 villages agreed to protect this area, named after the three rivers: the Yopno, Uruwa, and Som, to prohibit logging, hunting and mining. The Wealth of Nature: Ecosystem Services, Biodiversity, and Human Well-Being is a gold winner in the 2010 Independent Publisher Book Awards in the Environment/Ecology/Nature category. Tim is very happy to be a contributing photographer of this book by Cristina G. Mittermeier, Jeffrey A. McNeely, Russell A. Mittermeier, Thomas M. Brooks, Frederick Boltz, and Neville Ash.
Last year, Tim received the North American Nature Photography Association’s Outstanding Nature Photographer Award. The 09 Annual Summit was held in Albuquerque where Tim gave a keynote presentation. Other presentations that year were by Norbert Rosing, Art Wolfe and Bill Fortney.
